Community Impact

A recent study of the annual economic value of the University of Cincinnati’s volunteer service and engagement finds that students, staff and faculty annually contribute the equivalent of $8.5 million in time, talent and philanthropic donations to our local, regional and global communities.

To support and amplify that impact, the Bicentennial has two key programs to invest in the community and further the impact that we have. One program is an on-campus initiative to engage faculty and staff to give back, and another is providing grants to local non-profit organizations working in partnership with UC students.

Bicentennial Community Engagement Grants

Consistent with our identity as an urban-based university, our Bicentennial Community Grants Project focuses on community engagement. Up to $100,000 in grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 will be announced this year, to invest in projects involving UC students and faculty while celebrating and extending UC’s urban impact in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. In August, over 130 organizations submitted proposals to participate.

The local organizations and their projects that were awarded grants are:

Breakthrough Cincinnati Inc.: Academic Scholars School-Year Program

Bearcats Give Back

Faculty and staff will have the opportunity to come together during the Bicentennial celebration in an internal effort to give back to the community that we call home. Through a yearlong collection, UC will help support the mission of several local non-profit and community organizations by collecting in-kind donations. In addition to impacting community organizations, this effort will also bolster and amplify the impact of our own programs, including:
