Community Impact

A recent study of the annual economic value of the University of Cincinnati’s volunteer service and engagement finds that students, staff and faculty annually contribute the equivalent of $8.5 million in time, talent and philanthropic donations to our local, regional and global communities. 

To support and amplify that impact, the Bicentennial provided grants to local non-profit organizations working in partnership with UC students.

Bicentennial Community Engagement Grants 

Consistent with our identity as an urban-based university, our Bicentennial Community Grants Project focuses on community engagement. $100,000 in grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 have been awarded to local non-profit organizations to invest in projects involving UC students and faculty while celebrating and extending UC’s urban impact in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Over 130 organizations submitted proposals to participate. 

The local organizations and their projects that were awarded grants are:

  • Breakthrough Cincinnati Inc.: Academic Scholars School-Year Program
  • Give Like a Mother: Clothing Cincinnati's Children
  • God's Favor Mobile Meals Ministry: Dine on a Dime
  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati: Rock the Block
  • Hughes STEM High School: Hughes STEM Intersession 2018-19
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati (IHNGC): Pet Support Program for Homeless Individuals/Families
  • Keep Cincinnati Beautiful: Vacant Lots: Occupied
  • Lockland Local Schools: Lockland Literacy Lab
  • Nurturing Educational Readiness and Development (N.E.R.D.S): STEM NERDS
  • Sidestreams: Design, Plan, and Build a Garden Feature
  • St. Francis: Cooking for the Family
  • St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati: Nutrition for our Neighbors in Need
  • Super Seeds: Option's Day
  • Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank: Diaper Distribution Program Expansion
  • UC Early Learning Center: Building Community One Book at a Time
